She launched her second album “21” in January 2011 that made sales of over 0.2 million copies within first week and made a new record of the most digital downloads in the UK. But due to the surging demand of her music it was released especially for US fans in February. It was an utter success; soon after the launch it landed on the first position of the Billboard 200 and remained there for 9 consecutive weeks with sales of more than 350,000 within the first week of release. By mid 2011 she was among the top ten under-30 richest music artists in UK.

Adele Adkins was born in London in 1988. Her mother was a single parent which made Adele face many difficulties during early years of her childhood. She used to adore the Spice girls and developed her passion for singing in the quite early ages of her life. She was very clear regarding her career and joined the BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology that refined her singing and performing skills. During her graduation she recorded 2 songs for an online magazine but what actually opened the doors of music industry to her was the class project consisting of 3 songs that her friend shared on MySpace which impressed XL Recordings and introduced her to September Management where Jonathan Dickins became her official agent.
Her first official song was “Hometown Glory” that provided her a great career start. After which she released her second song “Chasing Pavements” in 2008 followed by her first album “19.” To capture the US market Columbia Records collaborated with XL Recordings for an official tour of Adele to the US along with the release of her album. The Recording Industry Association of America declared the album “Gold” due to its abrupt popularity with sales of over 2.2 million through 2009. Because of her personal affair she became involved with alcohol and she had to cancel a US trip that negatively affected her career in US. Fortunately she got a chance to perform at Saturday Night Live where Sarah Palin was invited as guest. The large viewership proved to be a jackpot for Adele. To capitalize on the opportunity she decided to make a US tour and visited 11 cities.
In 2008 Adele won the Urban Music Award for the Best Jazz Act. Prime Minister Gordon Brown personally admired Adele’s music and sent her a thank-you note. To revive the famous series “Unplugged” MTV signed a deal with Adele for 6 songs. In 2007 she performed at MENCAP Little Noise Sessions to raise funds. She participated in a fund raising concert for Save the Music Foundation at Brooklyn Academy of Music. She also purchased a painting for £8,000 to support the children of Africa.
